Early Christmas Present [Nov. 27th, 2007|06:38 pm]
[I'm feeling |ecstaticNEW MONITOR!!]

So, [info]isabelgu is the greatest wife ever. By taking several rewards certificates that we earned by using our Circuit City VISA and taking advantage of an after Thanksgiving 2 day sale she got me a huge monitor for Christmas and let me hook it up early.

The upgrade is from a 15" Samsung SyncMaster 570V TFT to a 24" widescreen Samsung SyncMaster 245BW. The difference is astounding. We christened it by watching movie trailers on the Apple site, and the picture is absolutely beautiful.

Portal [Oct. 12th, 2007|09:43 am]
I know I haven't posted in a while, but this little flash game is too good to pass up - especially if you recently bought Orange Box and fell in love with Portal. It's 2D, but the feel is spot on.

The Lawn! She has been Mowed! [Jun. 5th, 2007|09:02 pm]
[I'm feeling |tiredtired]

So a few weeks ago [info]isabelgu and I finally got around to laying sod. Since we had a sprinkler system installed last summer it took really well. Very thick and very tall (it was starting to produce seeds even!).

So we needed to purchase a lawn mower and a weed-eater. We had two goals in mind when buying lawn-mowing tools: get something cheap and get something eco-friendly. So we ended up with a manual lawn-mower and an electric weed-eater. The mower looks like this:

I thought it would work really well and it does, but the length and thickness of the grass means I had to go over most of the rows twice. It looks really nice, but man am I ever tired. Hopefully, I'll stay on top of things and mow once a week so that it doesn't get so terribly long again.

Oh, and if any of you ever decide to buy a similar mower, it seems to work better when you push faster. The momentum is very helpful. Well, I'm out. I've got Enterprise to watch and maybe some Catan to play (I'm so very addicted to that game on 360; it's great).

Superman Returns (360) for $20 [Apr. 27th, 2007|09:36 am]
If anybody was on the fence about Superman Returns (360), Amazon is selling it for $20. That's half the normal price right now, and game released for $60.

I know I'm going to be asking Jenny about it when I get home.

Happy Wednesday! [Mar. 22nd, 2007|01:23 pm]

[I'm feeling |happyhappy]
[I'm listening to |my pounding headache]

First, I know that today isn't Wednesday, but my story takes place on Wednesday.

So, yesterday after work Jenny was randomly thinking about Peter and the Wolf. I'm not sure why. She just does stuff like that. While I'm upstairs cleaning up some cat puke (he got the edge of the stairway; must realize that our SpotBot makes cleaning regular pukes too easy) Jenny yells up to me asking if I knew who narrated the version of Peter and the Wolf she was looking at. I jokingly yell down that it's Patrick Stewart. For the record, I've never heard him narrate Peter and the Wolf; I just can't think of anybody that could do a better job of it. The man has a perfect voice. To my surprise I was right! Jenny contemplated buying it off of Amazon, but decided against it.

It was time for dinner, and neither of us wanted to cook. Surprise surprise. I recommended California Pizza Kitchen as they have delicious soup, warm pita bread, and tasty Mexican pizza. We went and the food was, indeed, tasty and delicious. After dinner, Jenny asked if we could go to Circuit City to look for the Peter and the Wolf CD. I obliged, as I love Circuit City.

When we arrived we saw a pretty pathetic offering of classical music. Are all stores this way? There were maybe 30 titles. Some of the most beautiful music man has ever created, and it's overshadowed by rap and bubble-gum pop.

It was then that Jenny revealed her true reason for going to Circuit City. She handed me an Xbox 360 controller and told me to pick out a game. Turns out CC was running a deal where if you bought a Premium 360, you got a second controller for free. I picked up Kameo (which I'd played in a demo pod before so I know it's good) and headed home, smiling all the way. Got home, hooked it up and realized that my TV only has one set of component inputs so for now the Wii shares an input source with the 360. Not too inconvenient, but eventually I'll either pick up a splitter or a receiver. I'm also saving for a wireless adapter; don't want any Cat5 running through the living room and into the office.

After I got everything all set up and started playing, I was having a great time. Kameo is just as good at home as it was in the store; better even. From playing the demo I thought she could only transform into 3 creatures, but looking through the menus I think I'll have around 10 to choose from by the time I'm done.

It sounds weird, but I already know a bunch of games that I want, and most of them are XBL Arcade titles. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Heavy Weapon, Outpost Kaloki X, and maybe some Lumines Live.

I've wanted a 360 for a while now, and to be surprise with one after a great dinner out was wonderful. Thanks, Jenny! ^_^

Dogs Dogs Everywhere [Feb. 26th, 2007|05:47 pm]
[I'm listening to |Star Trek: Voyager]

Those of you that read [info]isabelgu's journal know that we found a black lab last Thursday. She's still with us, and she seems to be adjusting to life at Casa de Last just fine. Right now, she's lounging in the middle of the living room floor, and if you didn't know any better you could swear that she's been living with us her entire life.

Well, one extra dog just isn't enough so when I saw some neighborhood kids taunting a pair of boxers (1 fawn male and 1 brindle female) I called to them and corralled them into my back yard. I figured the last thing we needed was for the kids to hurt the dogs or for the dogs to hurt the kids.

They seemed like perfectly nice dogs, and we took them to the emergency vet to see if they were microchipped. In addition to having no collars/tags, they also didn't have microchips. Since neither Jenny nor I are especially fond of the Humane Society of the Pike's Peak Region (they're not affiliated with the real Humane Society in any way and they put animals down after 2 weeks) we decided to keep the dogs in our garage overnight (they didn't like cats) and try to find their owners or surrogate owners today.

That didn't work out very well. They absolutely ransacked our garage so we took them back to the emergency vet, and the Humane Society picked them up this morning. On the bright side, the vet technician said that boxers are easily placed dogs and are very popular in this area, so it sounds like they've got a good chance of finding a good home.

I'm very lucky that Jenny and I both are insane enough that we want to rescue strays whenever we see them. I just hope that Fawn and Brindle (we didn't know their names) find a good home - preferably one where they won't ransack garages or get lost again.

Been a Long Time [Jan. 10th, 2007|08:00 pm]
Wow. Lots to catch up on. I don't remember the last time I wrote, but I think I'll start from Christmas as it's what I really want to talk about anyway.

First, the materialism stuff. I get Jenny a horse for Christmas. His name is Pegasus, and she loves to spend time training and riding him. I'm glad that she finally has something to do that she loves doing as much as I love computers and video games. Jenny got me a Tivo, and I couldn't be happier with it. I can record shows that I wanted to watch but didn't ever want to set up the VCR for, and I can pause and rewind live TV. It's wonderful. I'll never miss an episode of Battlestar Galactica or Studio 60 again.

Then there was travelling. Family parties were fun, and everybody seems to be doing well in both Jenny's and my families. My cousin, Gina, is getting married next December! We got to meet her fiancee, Kyle. He seemed nice, and I'm sure he's more talkative when he's not feeling under the weather. We also got to see some friends. While we were in the Chicago area we hung out with Jenny's sister and her high school friends. Much fun was had with them and the Wii that my parents gave us for Christmas.

We also got to see my best friends, Katie and Chris, twice! It was the first time that I'd gotten to see their house, and it rocks. They've got just enough space to be able to spread out, but not so much space as to feel like the house is too big for them. Also, their couch is extra comfy. I'm glad that we finally got to get out and see them, and I hope that they can make it to Colorado again this summer. It was lots of fun last time that they were able to come visit, and I miss them both.

One more thing and then I'll be done rambling for a little while. Remember how I said my parent got Jenny and I a Wii? It's excellent. The games are fun, especially Wii Sports and Zelda. You actually pretend to throw the bowling ball when you play bowling, and in Zelda you actually have to slash the controller to slash your sword. Very cool stuff. There's also what they call the Virtual Console where you can download retro games. So far I've got three: Toejam and Earl (SEGA Genesis), Bonk's Adventure (TurboGraphix 16), and Gradius (NES). Toejam and Earl is just as great as I remember it being as a kid, and the other 2 were good purchases even though (or maybe because) I never played them on their original consoles.

Well, that's about all I'm up to lately aside from working crazy long weeks because my program is ramping up.

Later!

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

The description is pretty spot on except for the fact that they're cans of soda, not cans of pop.
